Mount Hotham is in the Victorian Alps of the Great Dividing Range, located in the Australian state of Victoria. The mountain is located approximately 357 kilometres north east of Melbourne, 746 kilometres from Sydney, and 997 kilometres from Adelaide by road. The nearest major road to mountain is the Great Alpine Road. Built on a spectacular mountain ridge, the resort features majestic views, terrain to suit all abilities, along with a host of activities to keep you entertained, both on the slopes and off.
Mt Hotham's summit rises to an altitude of 1,862 metres (6,109 ft) . In the winter you can enjoy Skiing the resort has to offer with mountain accommodation at Hotham or Dinner Plain, which is a luxurious alpine village only 10 km from the resort. With 13 lifts catering for over 24,000 people an hour, downhill runs up to two and half kilometres long, and cutting-edge snow-making facilities, you won't be wasting time in queues or waiting for the right weather to come through. And that means a lot more time on the slopes.
Whether you're a first time skier or a seasoned pro you'll find plenty to get the heart racing and test your skills. There are lessons for novices of all ages, private tutorials, as well as a variety of programs to help intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders hone their skills.
Winter season 2018: 9 June - 07 October 2018
It is a legal requirement that all vehicles entering the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort during the declared snow season be fitted with diamond pattern snow chains (ladder chains, spider chains and snow socks are not permitted). Chains can be hired locally at the base of the mountain in Bright, Harrietville and Omeo.
In Summer some of the Hotham and Dinner Plain restaurants and supermarkets are open so it is a great place to either relax, go hiking or explore the mountain bike trails.
Coach services to Mount Hotham operate from Wangaratta, Wodonga and Harrietville. The summit is 1 km from Alpine Road and provides splendid views of Mount Feathertop, the surrounding countryside and the Ovens, Kiewa, Bundara, Cobungra, Victoria, Little Dargo, Wongungurra and Buckland Rivers which branch out in all directions. A cairn and a weather vane honour E.J. Gravbrot who introduced winter sports to Victoria. Mount Hotham caters to inexperienced, intermediate and advanced skiers. Cross-country tracks can be found on Wire Plain and Whisky Flat, with longer trails stretching to Mount Loch and beyond to Falls Creek.
