    Lake Mountain

Lake Mountain is a 1,433-metre-high mountain and cross-country ski resort that is located in Victoria, Australia. Approximately 120 kilometres (75 mi) from Melbourne. You can travel from Melbourne and be playing in the Lake Mountain snow in just two hours. This is the closest snow resort to Melbourne, Lake Mountain is an ideal option for families looking to enjoy a day in the snow. The Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is situated in a saddle between Lake Mountain and Echo Flat and provides access to a 37 kilometres (23 mi) cumulative trail network through the surrounding Yarra Ranges National Park. You can explore all 37 kilometres of cross-country trails on skis and snow shoes, race downhill in a toboggan, or revel in an afternoon of snowball fights and snowman building. With a wide range of cross country trails for all ages and skill levels on offers, there's plenty to keep the kids occupied and on the go. It is an exclusively cross-country skiing resort, but the majority (80%) of the visitors to the resort throughout the year are a family demographic, with family groups being the main constituents. There are up to seven toboggan runs, though two main runs, which are open to the public. The centre was opened on 12 June 2004 at a cost of A$3.7 million along with the refurbishment and restructuring of two other buildings, a toilet block and visitor's locker room area, and the Ski Patroller's Centre, the main area for the coordination and first aid treatments employed by the Ski Patrollers. It has several other facilities, such as two fully equipped conference centres and a licensed café bar. The Heights Bar and Café remains open all year round, to accommodate bushwalkers and bike riders. In 2005, the Ski Patroller's Centre was equipped to operate as "Snow Gum Lodge" during the off-season, generally available between November and May, for secluded and private overnight stays. It was the only accommodation on-mountain but was destroyed in the 2009 bushfires

    Mt Buffalo

Mount Buffalo is moderately tall mountain plateau in the Mount Buffalo National Park in Victoria, Australia that is located approximately 350 kilometres (220 mi) northeast of Melbourne in the Australian Alps. The summit on the plateau, known as the Horn, has an elevation of 1,723 metres. During winter Mount Buffalo offers snow play and cross-country skiing.  Bring your ski gear along with the trusty family toboggans and make your way to the sub alpine climes of Mount Buffalo for a dose of snow play, tobogganing and cross-country skiing.   Enjoy family friendly tobogganing and snow play in two separate areas. Dingo Dell is about 30 kilometres from Porepunkah and features a cafe, visitor centre, ski school, toboggan slope and ample room for snow play. Cresta Valley lies 3 kilometres further up the road and has toboggan runs, groomed and un-groomed cross country ski trails and toilets. Be prepared to fit chains and drive carefully. Have a great time in the snow at our Winter Wonderland.   Early winter at Mount Buffalo is cold clear days with views of the snow on the Alps in the distance. June brings the first of the winter snow falls, but until the colder weather and bigger storms of early July arrive, little remains on the ground for long.  Mount Buffalo's snow season is normally from mid July to early September. Beautiful township, particularly in autumn and spring, on the edge of the Snowy Mountains.Situated 320 km north-east of Melbourne Mount Buffalo is one of Victoria's, and Australia's oldest skiing resort destinations. It is thought that Mt Buffalo, in Mt Buffalo National Park, was once twice or even three times its current height (1723 m). Its 35-sq-km plateau is littered with striking rock formations such as the Leviathan - a 30 000-tonne rock balanced on a tiny base. The mountain owes its name to the bovine impression it left upon the explorers Hume and Hovell.

    Falls Creek

Falls Creek Alpine Resort is an alpine ski resort in northeastern Victoria, Australia.  It is Victoria's largest alpine resort and the spiritual home of cross country skiing. Located in the Alpine National Park in the Victorian Alps, approximately 350 kilometres by road from Melbourne, with the nearest town Mount Beauty, approximately 30 km away. The resort lies between an elevation of 1,210 and 1,830 m above sea level, with the highest lifted point at 1,780 m. Falls Creek is beginner/intermediate friendly, with almost 80% of the resort dedicated to these types of skiers/snowboarders. Falls Creek is also the official training base for the Australian national cross-country team and hosts the annual Kangaroo Hoppet, the largest snow sport event in the southern hemisphere.   Falls Creek boasts 65 kilometres of free cross-country trails, downhill skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, and terrain parks with some of the best rails and jumps around. Falls Creek, 29 km south of Mt Beauty via a narrow and winding but scenic road, has a reputation as the state's most exclusive (and expensive) ski resort. It is certainly one of the most popular. It is located 363 km north-east of Melbourne via the Hume Freeway, Wangaratta and the Great Alpine Rd. Those who prefer to avoid the hassle of driving on the narrow approach road in icy winter conditions may wish to leave their car at Mt Beauty and take one of the daily coaches (there are also daily coach services from Albury and Melbourne in the ski season).

    Mt Hotham

Mount Hotham is in the Victorian Alps of the Great Dividing Range, located in the Australian state of Victoria. The mountain is located approximately 357 kilometres  north east of Melbourne, 746 kilometres  from Sydney, and 997 kilometres  from Adelaide by road. The nearest major road to mountain is the Great Alpine Road. Built on a spectacular mountain ridge, the resort features majestic views, terrain to suit all abilities, along with a host of activities to keep you entertained, both on the slopes and off.  Mt Hotham's summit rises to an altitude of 1,862 metres (6,109 ft)  . In the winter you can  enjoy Skiing  the resort has to offer with mountain accommodation at Hotham or Dinner Plain, which is a luxurious alpine village only 10 km from the resort. With 13 lifts catering for over 24,000 people an hour, downhill runs up to two and half kilometres long, and cutting-edge snow-making facilities, you won't be wasting time in queues or waiting for the right weather to come through. And that means a lot more time on the slopes. Whether you're a first time skier or a seasoned pro you'll find plenty to get the heart racing and test your skills. There are lessons for novices of all ages, private tutorials, as well as a variety of programs to help intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders hone their skills. Winter season 2018: 9 June - 07 October 2018 It is a legal requirement that all vehicles entering the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort during the declared snow season be fitted with diamond pattern snow chains (ladder chains, spider chains and snow socks are not permitted). Chains can be hired locally at the base of the mountain in Bright, Harrietville and Omeo. In Summer some of the Hotham and Dinner Plain restaurants and supermarkets are open so it is a great place to either relax, go hiking or explore the mountain bike trails. Coach services to Mount Hotham operate from Wangaratta, Wodonga and Harrietville. The summit is 1 km from Alpine Road and provides splendid views of Mount Feathertop, the surrounding countryside and the Ovens, Kiewa, Bundara, Cobungra, Victoria, Little Dargo, Wongungurra and Buckland Rivers which branch out in all directions. A cairn and a weather vane honour E.J. Gravbrot who introduced winter sports to Victoria. Mount Hotham caters to inexperienced, intermediate and advanced skiers. Cross-country tracks can be found on Wire Plain and Whisky Flat, with longer trails stretching to Mount Loch and beyond to Falls Creek.
